ARUNDEL VOCAL ARTS SOCIETY CHANGES REHEARSAL VENUE AS IT BEGINS ITS 23RD YEAR

The Arundel Vocal Arts Society is entering its 23rd year as one of the areas premier choral groups. This year will present yet another challenge as the singers report to a new rehearsal location on Wednesday, September 6. The group will be meeting at its usual time from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the Severna Park Middle School. The School is located at 450 Jumpers Hole Road, just north of Benfield Road, in Severna Park. This new rehearsal location is more centrally located in North County than the group’s previous site in Annapolis and is expected to draw new singers from a wider geographical area. Auditions are open to new and “old” singers alike. Auditions for AVAS will be held on Wednesday, September 6 following rehearsal at 9:30 and Wednesday September 13 and September 20 at 7:00 p.m. Male voices are especially needed. Anyone wishing to audition for AVAS may call 410-268-3131 in advance or just show up. No prepared music is necessary.

Prior to the spring concert in May, elections for a new President and Vice President were held. We are pleased to announce that John Ward and Chris McVeigh were unanimously elected President and Vice President, respectively. John has been a member of AVAS for approximately 15 years. Chris has been a member for 17 years, serving in the very valuable position of Librarian for 10 years, and as an Alto Section Leader. We also want to offer our sincere gratitude to outgoing President, Sandy Boyd, for her dedicated and oftentimes heroic leadership during her tenure as President.

We are also happy to welcome back Director David Daniel for his second season with the group, and look forward to a very full music agenda.
